Le designer coréen Jeabyun Yeon vient d'inventer un masque de plongée sous-marine révolutionnaire qui permet de respirer sous l'eau (un peu comme Obi wan Kenobi dans Star Wars).  Un genre de branchies artificielles qui extrait l'oxygène sous l'eau à travers un filtre avec des trous plus petits que les molécules d'eau à l'aide d'un puissant micro compresseur qui comprime et stocke l'oxygène puis le renvoi dans les narines.

The Hockey Hall of Fame (HHFM), located in Toronto is one of the premiere destinations for hockey fans. Established in 1943, HHFM is dedicated to memorializing those who have contributed to developed Canada's great winter sport -- ice hockey.

As part of its continual pursuit in providing attendees with new and unique ways to experience Canada’s favorite sport, HHFM recently unveiled a series of new interactive exhibits within the TSN/RDS Broadcast Zone. The most recent, and one of the most popular, being the new TSN SportsCentre Studio. The exhibit was designed as a replica of the TSN SportsCentre Studio set and offers guests the opportunity to test their sports anchor skills in front of a live camera and teleprompter.

Designed by Terry Heard Design and built by Holman, the interactive SportsCentre Studio exhibit give guests an authentic in-studio experience. All guests’ performances are recorded using the Cisco GameCAM Video System. This allows participants to download the video and have a keepsake that they can share online/social media.

The exhibit has become a popular attraction for hockey fans of all ages and has provided a photo-opp which can be seen on profile pictures across all social media platforms.

Most drink vending machines are designed to dole out refreshment when the right amount of coins is traded in, but Gatorade's Sweat Machine operates a little differently.

The Sweat Machine was set up at various park locations in Toronto, calling out to runners, bikers and other active individuals as they passed by. Gatorade's machine asked people to place their hand on a panel in order to determine if they were sweaty enough to deserve a drink. If not, the machine challenged people to #KeepSweating by performing a few more squats, burpees or a jog on the spot.

With interactive stunts like these, Gatorade is beginning a shift in focus from celebrating professional athletes to rewarding ordinary people who are inspired to keep active every day.

The grace, flexibility and strength that yoga requires comes with practice—and it’s helpful to hear feedback from an instructor, too. But a new clothing line called Nadi could help yoga lovers stay in top form without the constant need for an instructor.
Recently unveiled at CES, the specially designed line of tights caters to the yogi that aims to perfect his/her craft. Using haptic vibrations, the yoga pants help to correct the wearer’s form. With different frequencies and intensities, the vibrations guide the wearer through not only their positions but also their overall goals. Users can set these goals—and track their progress—with the help of an app. The vibrations happen in real time as the wearer changes movements.
Wearable Experiments—the brains behind Nadi—focuses specifically on this union between fashion and technology. They hope to create each fashionable item as an “untapped resource that, together with technology, can help people stay more connected and use their fashion in a more practical way,” as their website states.

LEVL can tell if your body is actually burning off fat. By measuring acetone in the breath, it will be able to tell if your body is doing what you want it to.
The prototype features a dock with two breath pods. To carry out a test, the user would have to breath into one pod and put it into the dock which analyzes the sample. A reading is made and a LEVL score shows up on the dock’s display. This LEVL score serves as a quick summary of how a person is doing in terms of burning fat.

Les plus fainéants d'entre nous vont l'adorer. Une pilule miracle, capable de reproduire les bienfaits d'une séance de sport sur notre organisme, pourrait bientôt voir le jour, révèle la revue Cell Metabolism. Au total, deux équipes de chercheurs, l'une basée au Danemark et l'autre en Australie, travaillent actuellement sur ce projet.
On le sait depuis longtemps : le sport a de nombreux bienfaits sur le corps. Malheureusement, tout le monde n'a pas la possibilité de pratiquer une activité physique. Les personnes obèses ou amputées ont les plus grandes difficultés à bouger au quotidien. Or, comme le soulignent les professeurs David James, Leonard Ullmann et Charles Perkins au journal Science Daily, le sport "est une des thérapies les plus puissantes pour de nombreuses maladies, y compris le diabète de type 2, les problèmes cardiovasculaires ou certains troubles neurologiques". Et d'ajouter qu'il est donc "essentiel de trouver un moyen de créer un médicament qui imite les bénéfices de ces exercices". Aujourd'hui, c'est peut-être bientôt chose faite.

Finir dernier d’une compétition, c’est grave docteur ? Nike et l'agence Wieden+Kennedy nous assurent que non avec une campagne sobrement baptisée « Last ».

Au Panthéon de la marque Nike, on retrouve plusieurs légendes : Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Cristiano Ronaldo… Exploits retentissants, records historiques, le commun des mortels aiment se gargariser de ce genre de performance. Mais qu’en est-il du sportif lambda, celui qui court une fois par semaine, et pour lequel la préparation d’un marathon relève d’une expédition sur la planète Mars ? Arrivera-t-on à effectuer les un peu plus de 42 kilomètres d’un pas léger et le port de tête bien droit ? La réponse est forcément non. A travers sa dernière campagne « Last », Nike s’intéresse de plus près au bon dernier, au « loser romantique », celui qui pendant plusieurs heures, poings serrés, passera par toute la palette des sentiments, et  franchira de sa démarche de mort vivant, la ligne d’arrivée dans l’anonymat le plus complet. Car, le plus important n’est pas de participer ni même de gagner. Le plus important, c’est de continuer. Un discours qui a pour but de valoriser tous les sportifs, peu importe leur niveau, et qui fait la part belle à l’authenticité et l'humour.

In order to make the act of breaking a sweat feel more entertaining and less like hard work, a number of unique fitness classes are emerging to keep people around the world in shape. Some of these unconventional examples include yoga classes where cats are invited to roam around, waterless indoor surfing lessons and spin classes that are taken to the next level with virtual reality visuals.

For those who find the idea of going to a traditional gym or a fitness studio unappealing, there are plenty of classes that defy convention, including SUP yoga classes on the open water, airports and Clubbercise, which blends the gym and dance club atmosphere.

Now that people are looking to take control of their own health and wellness, many are approaching it with the attitude that fitness may as well be fun.

Jean-Marie Debbasch a fondé la start-up Connected Cycle en 2013, aux côtés de Christian Kravanja. Représentant de la French Tech au CES Las Vegas en janvier dernier, grâce à son système de puce intégrée à un vélo ou à une pédale, il explique pour les Clés de demain comment les objets connectés vont changer notre rapport au sport.

En se démocratisant, les objets connectés vont-ils révolutionner le sport, amateur comme professionnel ?

Il y a deux approches différentes selon que l'on s'adresse à un sportif amateur ou professionnel. Mesurer son activité à l'aide d'un système connecté pour un amateur a un côté stimulant. On s'auto-stimule à travers la performance effectuée, comme par exemple un temps de parcours que l'on a l'habitude de faire ; mais aussi grâce au partage des données de son activité sportive, sur les réseaux sociaux notamment. Pour un sportif de haut niveau, l'approche est différente. On sait que la mesure est utile, mais les données doivent être extrêmement précises et il n'est pas question de les partager. Elles restent entre le sportif et son entraîneur. Ainsi, on ne conçoit pas un produit de la même manière selon qu'il est destiné à un professionnel ou au grand public. Mais on se dirige vers une démocratisation de l'utilisation des objets connectés. C'est une question d'habitude. Aujourd'hui, à un arrêt de bus ou à une station de métro, il nous semble normal de voir s'afficher le temps d'attente, on ne s'en rend même plus compte, même si ce n'est pas le fait de savoir quand précisément arrivera le métro qui le fera arriver plus vite.

The Singapore-based non-profit organization 'Lien AID' recently held a campaign to demonstrate how difficult it can be for many people in the world to access clean drinking water. In many parts of the world, people must travel long distances to find a source of clean water. Lien AID's new campaign sought to educate the Singapore public about how difficult it is for rural people to access water.

The campaign was held on World Water Day and it involved a vending machine called the 'Water Machine.' This smart machine held 160 bottles of chilled drinking water, each of which was available for free. However, in order to receive a bottle of water, an individual had to run in place, do a series of jumping jacks or hold a yoga pose for 45 seconds. Even after the individual performed this task, the machine still wouldn't dispense their bottle of water. The Water Machine would then reveal a story about the hardship that many people endure in order to access clean drinking water, thus instilling the importance of the campaign. 

Self-Rolling Yoga Mat


Does the frustration involved with rolling up a mat keep you from avoiding a daily yoga routine? That’s my excuse, which is now rendered moot with a yoga mat that rolls up tightly all by itself thanks to some fashion technology that was popular in the 1990s.
The YoYo Mat, which is attempting to raise $50,000 via Kickstarter to fund a large production run, looks and feels like your typical foam yoga mat. So you’re not making any compromises when it comes to weight or comfort. But it’s been upgraded with a pair of flat metal strips embedded along each edge of the mat that become rigid when unfurled ensuring the YoYo Mat always lies flat on the floor.
When your workout is over, simply picking up the YoYo Mat causes those metal strips to ‘snap’ and the whole thing to roll up on itself. It’s not exactly a solution to the planet’s most pressing issues, but the days of wrangling a six-feet long foam mat into a tight roll will soon be ancient history for yoga enthusiasts.

adidas is taking the phrase “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” to a whole new level. They’ve teamed up with Parley for the Oceans, an organization that aims to raise awareness about ocean pollution. On June 29, 2015, during “Oceans. Climate. Life.”, a talk hosted by United Nations and Parley for the Oceans, adidas unveiled the world’s first shoe upper made solely from recycled ocean waste and illegal deep-sea gillnets.

If the Nike NX.25 service doesn't sound familiar, it's because it's currently only available in Europe to the global brand's most valuable customers. With such perks as early access to new Nike product releases, access to special events and VIP access to Nike personnel around the clock, it's only natural that the look of the Nike NX.25 branding would be on the luxurious side.

Conceived by design director Malte Gruhl, the Nike NX.25 branding boasts a black marbled background with gold lettering. At once simple and opulent, the look will pique anyone's interest immediately while impressing upon them the value of such an exclusive service. Proper branding goes a long way as this particular project for Nike shows. It's hard not to want a card.

3D-Printed Knit Sneakers

Royal College of Art graduate Ammo Liao created these knit sneakers for the 2015 graduation show. The sneakers are called Bio-Knit trainers due to the eco-friendly fabric each shoe is made with. Every part of the shoe from the soles to the uppers is made from a 3D-printed recyclable material.

The shoes are made from a single polymer yarn-like material that is extremely flexible and allows each shoe to be comfortable and easily movable. The uppers of each shoe are knitted flat and then attached to the 3D-printed sole.

The idea for the knit sneakers came from Ammo Liao’s desire to create a shoe that could be recycled. The use of a single polymer allows the entire shoe to be recycled without going through a sorting process, which saves money, time and resources.

Wilson’s New Smart Basketball Magically Tracks Your Stats

The Internet of Things isn’t just limited to smart refrigerators, smoke detectors, and other static in-home devices. The world of sports has also been infiltrated by sensors you can use with baseball bats, golf clubs, and football helmets. Adidas released its MiCoach smart soccer ball last year. And hoops has been sort of a hotbed for connected equipment, with products like the 94Fifty smart basketball and ShotTracker net-mounted sensor.
Now, Wilson Sporting Goods is bringing a traditional brand name to the world of smart basketballs, and the company’s Wilson X Connected Basketball is significantly unlike anything else out there. Products like the 94Fifty need a separately-sold “smart net” to track the shots you make and miss, and the ShotTracker needs to be mounted on a net to do the same.
Wilson’s ball simply uses a sensor inside of it and some heavily tested algorithms to magically track your baskets and bricks. And unlike the 94Fifty ball, you don’t need to recharge it; it has a battery inside it rated to last around 100,000 shots—about two years of heavy usage, according to Wilson. After that, you can use it as a non-connected “dumb” basketball or possibly even trade it in.
“We will celebrate any shooter who shoots 100,000 shots,” says Bob Thurman, Head of Wilson Labs and the company’s ‘VP of Innovation.’ A running total of a user’s shots with the ball is among the things tracked in the mobile app. “They can contact Wilson about getting a replacement ball if the battery runs out after that milestone. That’s a lot of shots and we’d love to see the product used like that.”

While the indoor/outdoor X Connected ball itself looks and feels similar to the company’s Wilson Evolution balls, the major, very high-tech differences lie below the surface. The ball has a Bluetooth radio, low-power processor, and three-axis accelerometer inside of it, and it uses machine learning and some proxy processing by the cloud and a connected phone to calculate shot percentage and the shooter’s distance from the hoop.
“Since 2005, there’s been a lot of demand for sensors in balls across sports,” says Thurman. “We wanted to reach the masses with our ball.” The plan of attack there was to make using the ball much like playing mini video games, with different app-driven modes for free shooting, working on foul shots, and going against the clock in a “Buzzer Beater” mode.
To log and crunch all the data, Thurman says the company worked with SportIQ, a Finnish company that develops real-time analytics and coaching tools for basketball and hockey. SportIQ created an algorithm that’s “98 percent accurate on makes and misses,” according to Thurman, based on tracking 50,000 shots in a controlled environment.1
The ball is designed to work on a 10-foot hoop, but during some hands-on tests with it, it also tracked makes and misses accurately on an 8-foot rim. The setup is easy: You pair the ball with an iOS app over Bluetooth (an Android version is coming later), throw the ball about 10 feet in the air with a lot of backspin, let it hit the ground, and the phone shows it as paired up. From there, you can select a game mode, start the clock by tapping the screen, and log your stats.

And it really does work sort of like magic, albeit with limits. The ball was certainly very accurate in identifying makes and misses—on both a 10-foot and 8-foot hoop, and with both swishes and lucky rim-ins—but it did log a false-positive on an air ball and didn’t register a few shots altogether. There are a few types of shots the ball won’t track by design: Any shot less than 7 feet away from the rim, and any where the ball doesn’t hit the ground after going through the hoop. So if you have someone shagging rebounds for you during a shootaround, make sure they let the ball hit the ground after each shot for the best results.
This rock is designed for single-person usage, because the ball doesn’t “know” when it has changed possession. That means it won’t split stats between two people playing one-on-one. But for lonely shooters, there are plenty of goodies: Badges you can earn based on your improvement, a one-on-one virtual game between you and an app-driven ghost player, and crowd and buzzer noises to augment your clutch shots—and a canned “clank” noise to augment your bricks.
The secret to the battery life is that the ball goes into “hibernation” mode after a few minutes of inactivity. If you’re just taking a water break, you need to do the backspin-and-bounce process again to pair it back up. Unlike the 94Fifty basketball, this is a ball built solely for tracking your shooting progress; there are no dribbling drills or anything like that, just stats and games that make you work on your perimeter prowess.
This all comes at a cost—make no mistake, it’s an expensive basketball. At $200 for both men’s and women’s sizes, it’s around four times the cost of the Wilson Evolution indoor/outdoor ball. But it’s genuinely fun to use, even if your game is beyond all hope of improvement. And forget about padding your stats with layups and super-sick dunks on an 8-foot rim, because it simply won’t register those shots—this is a ball for stat-hungry shooters and all the hopefuls who want to join their ranks.
